father is to appear before the court in Spaldings tomorrow after
it is alleged that because his daughter would not willingly have
sex with him he broke her arm, seriously fractured her leg, threw
a flammable substance on her pubic area and shaved the hair from
her head.
The
39-year-old father of Spaldings, Clarendon will answer to charges
of incest and assault occasioning bodily harm. The man is a cabinet
maker and a sound system operator.
According
to the Spaldings police, about 10:30 p.m. on December 23, the
accused used a machete, a ratchet knife and a piece of board to
inflict serious wounds to his 18-year-old daughter, after forcing
her to have sex with him.
It
is reported that when the girl tried to deny her father his sexual
ambitions he beat her, broke one of her arms and seriously fractured
her leg. It is further claimed that when he saw the seriousness
of his daughter's injuries, the accused rushed her to the Percy
Junor Hospital and reported to health officials that she had been
giving him trouble and in his anger he beat her.
When
the health personnel failed to believe his report, the accused
allegedly threw himself on the ground and started to behave strangely,
before running from the facility back to his home. He is said
to have attempted to hang himself, after being chased by a group
of men from the area. He was however prevented from doing so by
a man who reportedly saw him with a piece of rope around his neck.
The
accused was handed over to the Spaldings police who transported
him to the Christiana police lock-up.
It
is said that from age 13, the complainant had been telling other
family members that she was being molested. A family member who
opted for anonymity told Jamaica
Star that the accused was suspected of carrying out incest
before but when he was spoken to he became angry.
On
December 23, the girl had just returned from another parish where
it is alleged that she had been staying in an effort to avoid
being molested.
