According to the Jamaica Star A father is to appear before the court in Spaldings tomorrow after it is alleged that because his daughter would not willingly have sex with him he broke her arm, seriously fractured her leg, threw a flammable substance on her pubic area and shaved the hair from her head.

The 39-year-old father of Spaldings, Clarendon will answer to charges of incest and assault occasioning bodily harm. The man is a cabinet maker and a sound system operator.

According to the Spaldings police, about 10:30 p.m. on December 23, the accused used a machete, a ratchet knife and a piece of board to inflict serious wounds to his 18-year-old daughter, after forcing her to have sex with him.

It is reported that when the girl tried to deny her father his sexual ambitions he beat her, broke one of her arms and seriously fractured her leg. It is further claimed that when he saw the seriousness of his daughter's injuries, the accused rushed her to the Percy Junor Hospital and reported to health officials that she had been giving him trouble and in his anger he beat her.

When the health personnel failed to believe his report, the accused allegedly threw himself on the ground and started to behave strangely, before running from the facility back to his home. He is said to have attempted to hang himself, after being chased by a group of men from the area. He was however prevented from doing so by a man who reportedly saw him with a piece of rope around his neck.

The accused was handed over to the Spaldings police who transported him to the Christiana police lock-up.

It is said that from age 13, the complainant had been telling other family members that she was being molested. A family member who opted for anonymity told Jamaica Star that the accused was suspected of carrying out incest before but when he was spoken to he became angry.

On December 23, the girl had just returned from another parish where it is alleged that she had been staying in an effort to avoid being molested.
